Imbiba funds Farmer J
Farmer J, known for bringing the best of the fields to the City, has secured £1.9m of investment capital to support their London expansion.
The investment supported by Imbiba, alongside existing shareholders and business angels, targets the gap in the market for nutritious, restaurant quality food, to grab and go.
Farmer J has already developed a strong following for their ‘build-your-own’ grab and go field trays, which are available from breakfast through to dinner and feature bold and bright Mediterranean dishes made with sustainable, seasonal ingredients. Health food and a sense of humour don’t always go hand in hand, yet Farmer J has a totally different approach, with a modern eatery which serves hearty plates of nutritious, fresh fare and does so with wit, style and attitude, living up to their tag line ‘we give a fork’.
"We are delighted to be partnering with Imbiba," said Jonathan Recanati, CEO and Founder. "Their operational experience and sector expertise comes at a key time for us and this new investment will accelerate our growth across London." Recanati studied hospitality management before working as an investment banker at Deutsche Bank. He founded Farmer J in 2016 and is joined by Creative Chef Nick Sandler, former development chef at Pret a Manger, Noel D’Arcy, Operations Director, Ali Recanati, Marketing Director, and Kevin Todd, non-executive director and former group Managing Director of M&B.
The funding will enable the team to expand from their current sites in the City of London in Leadenhall, King William Street and at Canada Place in Canary Wharf.
"When you combine the speed of service, fantastic product quality, very competitive price point, and flexible menu format, this is a very compelling business proposition," said Darrel Connell, Partner at Imbiba. "There is a strong proof of concept already in place in their Leadenhall and King William Street sites, and we are really looking forward to working with Jonathan and the team, helping with their growth plans.”
